Type II diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. 26 million Americans are affected by diabetes, of which 90% are type II. Type II diabetes occurs when the pancreas does not make enough insulin or the body cannot use the insulin well enough. The insulin made by the pancreas allows glucose to enter the body’s cells. Type II diabetes causes the glucose to not be absorbed by the body’s cells resulting in a buildup in the blood. Buildup of glucose in the blood can cause damage to the body’s nerves, blood vessels of the eyes, kidneys, and heart.
