Osteoarthritis Study

knee oa Hip OA

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a painful and debilitating musculoskeletal disease that is characterized by intra-articular (IA) inflammation, deterioration of articular cartilage, and degenerative changes to per-articular and subchondral bone. Symptomatic OA is estimated to affect 9.% of men and 18.0% of women worldwide, is generally more prevalent in Europe and the United States than other parts of the world, and is expected to become the fourth leading cause of disability by the year 2020 due to increase in life expectancy and aging populations.

Albuquerque Clinical Trials is currently conducting several Osteoarthritis studies for the knee and hip. If you would like to find out more information about our Osteoarthritis study options, please fill out our Participant Sign Up Form.

Hello. I’m interested in the Osteoarthritis study. I was diagnosed bi-laterally ~10 years ago and am not under treatment for it specifically. I have a multitude of other health conditions so they just give me pain meds for all of it!! Thank you

Hi. I have mild (so far) general OA, probably in the knees as well as other regions, not surprising at my age, 69, and activity level, moderate to athletic. Never any detrimental substance usage. Quit smoking (menthol/tobacco) in 1981 prior to any medical complications. Absent any specific debility in the knee, I have not specifically explored this yet. I am GREATLY motivated to avoid prosthetic knees. I have already had bi-lateral hip replacements by my mid-50’s (within three years of each other) and, this year, a right shoulder replacement due to advanced OA in those sites. Will you screen for OA in the knees or do I have to provide an independent, clinical finding from my insurance carrier? If this clinical trial can develop/provide me (and the public) with a protocol to delay or altogether avoid knee replacements, I would be glad to become a test subject. Please advise. Thank you.
